During the 2022 edition of the Health Informatics symposium, Logibec had the privilege of leading a workshop in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MHSS) to present two key initiatives at the heart of practices transformation: the electronic imaging prescriber and the electronic operative request. These two projects call on Logibec Electronic Document Management (EDM) to streamline the care process.
The following is a summary of the workshop and the positive impact of the two initiatives in the healthcare sector.
Presented by Éric Savoie, Project Manager - MHSS, the electronic imaging prescriber project consists in creating prescriptions in an electronic format. This way, the prescriber now has a tool that modernizes the entire imaging prescribing process by streamlining access to information to support prescribers in their decisions.
The ambition of the electronic imaging prescriber project is to reduce by 15% to 20% the 9 million prescriptions issued every year in Quebec. Its goal is also to improve the precision of requests and the processing of inquiries by reducing paper and fax usage.
The purpose of electronic operative requests is to reduce surgical treatment delays. Today, more than 20,000 patients have been waiting for surgery for more than a year. This considerable backlog, accentuated by the pandemic, can be partly explained by the 50,000 paper-based requests that are generated every year.
Patrice Senécal, Expert Advisor in Surgical Planning, DGAUMIP - MHSS, indicated that electronic operative request reduces delays and data entry errors. Information can be synchronized with Opera and entered directly by surgeons. Administrative staff does not need to intervene and can focus on other value-added tasks such as those caused by staff shortages.
Shirley Plouffe, Director of Business Development at Logibec, highlights how these initiatives are only two examples of how to use Logibec Electronic Document Management (EDM), as it can also streamline various care trajectories for healthcare institutions.
